Purpose: You will use HelloTalk Links to an external site., Tandem, Links to an external site.or italki Links to an external site. to meet a native French speaker who will serve as a communication partner for future activities.

Task: Now that you have your profile set up, you are going to reach out or respond to three people who speak French. This is the initial point of contact, so you may choose to use some of the following questions to start the conversation, or you may come up with your own. Be prepared to answer these questions as well!

• Salut. Ça va?
• Pourquoi étudies-tu l'anglais?
• Tu viens d'où?
• Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?

Note: Due to the time change, it might take a while to connect with a native speaker. You are best to try starting a conversation with someone in France after 10:00 pm or before noon Washington time. This is because during the afternoon and evening in the US, it is the middle of the night/very early morning in France. 

As with any online interaction with people you don't know, use your best digital judgment and do not give out too many personal details.  Be persistent until you find someone that you work well with.

Grading Criteria: You will be graded on this assignment based on a back-and-forth initial greeting with a French speaker in the app/site you chose. You will submit 3 screenshots of your conversations, 1 screenshot for each unique partner. Your screenshots must include the following:

1. the name of your conversation partner (50 pts)
2. an introductory communication on your part (50 pts)
3. an introductory communication on the part of your partner (50 pts)

These three following screenshots would earn 50 points each for a total of 150 points for the assignment. It does not matter who starts the conversation, so long as there is proof of a back-and-forth dialogue.
