What is "Academic Suspension"?

Academic Suspension and Continued Academic Suspension

Students are placed on Academic Suspension if they were on Academic Probation or Continued Academic Probation their last term, continue to have a cumulative GPA below 2.0, and do not have a term GPA that is 2.0 or higher. If you are placed on Academic Suspension you will receive an email from the college. In that letter we will let you know that are are required to sit out one full quarter, not counting summer quarter, before continuing to take classes at the college. However, you will also be provided the option to petition the Associate Dean of Student Success for consideration in continuing without sitting out a quarter. Students that are registered for the next quarter and either choose not to petition for continued enrollment or whose petition is denied will be dropped from classes. Students that are in a suspension status are also required to meet with an Academic Counselor before they may register for future classes.  

Students are placed on Continued Academic Suspension if they were on Academic Suspension their last term, continue to have a cumulate GPA below a 2.0, but during their current term they earned a term GPA of 2.0 or higher. You will receive an email from the college if you are placed an Continued Academic Suspension and are required to meet with an Academic Counselor before you may register for their next quarter classes. 

Financial Aid Suspension

Students whose aid has been suspended may not be eligible for future financial aid. Financial aid suspension may occur when:  A student completes less than six (6) credits unless term enrollment at census was less than 6 credits  In the next quarter of attendance a student on Financial Aid Warning or Probation does not complete:  The credits required for their enrollment level OR  Does not meet 67% Pace of Progression OR  Does not earn a 2.00 GPA, quarterly or maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0  A student officially or unofficially withdraws from all classes. Students who withdraw before the publicized last day to withdraw may owe a portion or all of their financial aid back to the financial aid programs.  A student’s cumulative GPA is below 2.00 at the end of the 6th quarter of attendance regardless of enrollment status.  A student has changed their degree more than three (3) times. Exceptions may apply for BAS program.  A student has attempted 125% of the credits required for their program of study  A student has failed to meet requirements of their academic plan
