Connecting Students to Campus

This section continues the information from the 21 Days to Holistic Student Support designed by the I-HOPE Welty Gran Team (see the first page in this section for more details). 

 

FAQ: "How Can I Encourage Students to Become More Involved on Campus?"

Associated Student Government student leadership positions enable students to have a voice on more than 20 college and district committees. ASG maintains a list of college committees and student positions on those committees. Encourage students to contact the student government in the Lair Student Center (509-533-8900) to be involved in decisions that impact the student experience.

Encourage students to get involved in a student organization. Contact information for more than 40 student clubs is available in the BigfootExperience mobile app and in the Student Leadership Center (509-533-8900) in the Lair. SCC has approximately 20 student groups that are closely tied to an academic degree program (automotive, communication, business, radiology) and another 20 that have a multicultural or special interest purpose (Black Student Union, American Sign Language, Veterans).

The Center for Inclusion and Diversity Links to an external site. provides multicultural resources, advocacy, activities, programming and club activities. It is open to not just students, but also faculty, staff and community members. The center is located in Building 6, Room 115.

Be creative, have fun, and encourage that Sasquatch Spirit. Student Activitie Links to an external site.s is always looking for students to be active in supporting and promoting Skitch, the SCC mascot, as well as serving in the role of the mascot.

** Please remember that if you're ever unsure of where to turn for support for a struggling student, the Early Alert team on campus is also available to help. The Early Alert team is made up of staff from student services departments across the campus. Faculty can submit online Early Alert Referrals Links to an external site. for student concerns ranging from class participation/attendance, assignment completion, mental health services, food and/or housing insecurity, and more. Once you submit a referral, a member of the team will reach out to the student within about 24 hours to check in on them and provide options for interventions or services. The team encourages you to "refer early and support often!"
