TLC Professional Development Course
faculty success leads to student success
Welcome! The Teaching and Learning Center's (TLC) professional development course is designed to support professional development at Spokane Community College.
The TLC's mission is to facilitate an atmosphere of collaboration, collegiality, inclusivity, diversity, and recognition of peer excellence by providing space and resources for the SCC community to nurture teaching and learning strategies in support of student success.
The center offers events with one goal in mind: improving your work with students immediately. Look for the weekly email with more information about this week's in-person programming, or visit the TLC site Links to an external site. with a list of upcoming events. In-person training is offered over Zoom and in-person (room 1-G210), and ITV is available on request. No pre-registration is required. To join via Zoom, use the Zoom link on the left-side navigation bar, or cut and paste this URL into your browser: https://ccs-spokane.zoom.us/j/4383125774 Links to an external site. (password: 011219).
Everyone is invited to participate in TLC conversations. Staff, part-time and full-time-faculty, and administrators are always welcome to join the discussions.
ON DEMAND TRAINING
In addition to the in-person face training offered each quarter in 1-G210, the TLC also has on-demand modules on topics connected to student success. To access the complete list of training available, click on the "Modules" button on the left-side navigation, or click on the buttons below for specific resources.

The list is growing, so please check back for additional materials.
NEW FACULTY
While there are many resources in this course that could be helpful for new faculty - both those new to teaching as well as those experienced faculty new to SCC - there is a separate TLC course designed specifically for new faculty. You can enroll in the course with this link (if you have trouble, try cutting and pasting this link into your browser: https://ccs.instructure.com/enroll/Y8WX9T, or email Angela Rasmussen directly). A few of the topics are similar, but I encourage new faculty to start with the other course first.
ADJUNCT FACULTY
Thanks to college support, currently employed adjunct faculty who participate in TLC events qualify for stipends. Each qualifying event carries a $30 stipend, with a maximum quarterly total of $180. To be eligible, all you need to do is sign in for in-person events (the TLC coordinator will record Zoom participation), and complete a Affiliated Stipend form before the deadline each quarter. The coordinator will contact you to verify the stipend near the end of the quarter. The stipends are relatively small, but I hope they speak to a larger commitment by the college to support adjunct professional development. Please direct any questions to TLC coordinator, Angela Rasmussen (angela.rasmussen@scc.spokane.edu).
