Christina Momono's Multicultural Leaders Knight Lab Timeline

Project Overview

I am an ABE ESL Instructor and I teach immigrant/refugee students, and help them improve their English skills. There are several ways that I can use the material I uploaded with the students. I can post it on Canvas as resource for a Listening Log and they can choose who to listen to and provide a report. They can listen to all the videos over the course. They can do a project where they would add a new leader or do a research project around a leader. Also, they can learn to use the Knight Lab to collect data and see a visual representation of their work. It is a great tool. There are several opportunities. For my classes, I do try to integrate a range of multicultural leaders to enrich their educational experiences.

Throughout my educational experiences, I feel like multicultural leaders have been on the sidelines or omitted from historical coverage, only used when it is a special month or for a special occasion. I want comprehensive representation in my classrooms of various people who have contributed to our lives. There are a few famous people of color who have been in the forefront but there are many more who are omitted. I feel as an educator I need to utilize the full spectrum of leadership and leadership narratives. This is important for students as they approach their futures. They will choose what types of leaders they will be as they forge forward in career choices. It will impact their narratives and how they contribute to our society.

I think you can use the Knight Lab timeline in several capacities. Also, the Knight Lab has various tools that can be used. One thing I found handy in using it was also referring to YouTube tutorial videos. You do not have to use videos but when you do it is recommended to spend time researching videos and different sources. I think the program is friendly to use.
