Digital Photography Assignment
Supplies needed- A digital camera or cell phone camera.
Outcome- Use the medium of digital photography to display knowledge of visual/artistic elements and design principles.
Process-
The subject matter of this assignment will be nature and the outdoors. For this assignment, digital photography is required. Specifically, you will need to take a series of outdoor nature photographs and submit them into this discussion group. Please take lots of photos. Submit the best images which demonstrate texture, atmospheric perspective, complementary colors, symmetrical balance, and asymmetrical balance. Please don't use old photos from your collection for this assignment. This should be a new group of photos taken with the knowledge gained from week three and four's reading/viewing material. Please don't take photos of people. This assignment is about the outdoors and nature, and you will need to go outside. Please don't use photographs from the internet which don't belong to you. The artwork needs to be new, original, and made by you.
First, use a digital camera or cell phone to capture outdoor nature images which demonstrate the following visual/artistic elements...
- Texture (Capture a single outdoor image which contains three different textures)
- Space (Capture a single outdoor image which demonstrates atmospheric perspective)
- Complementary Color (Capture a single outdoor image which demonstrates a complementary color scheme)
Secondly, use a digital camera or cell phone to capture outdoor images which demonstrate the following design principles...
- Symmetrical Balance (Capture a single outdoor image which demonstrates bilateral or approximate symmetry)
- Asymmetrical Balance (Capture a single outdoor image which demonstrates asymmetrical balance)
Finally, post all five images into this discussion. You will have a single image demonstrating texture. You will have a second image which demonstrates space. A third image will demonstrate complementary colors. A fourth image will demonstrate symmetrical balance. The fifth and final image will demonstrate asymmetrical balance.
Things to consider while taking photos-
- Consider using dramatic lighting. Nature will look very different at 4:30pm when the sun is setting.
- Consider taking photos from an unusual angle. Most people take photos from a standing position. What happens when you place the camera up very high or very low?
- Consider the overall composition of the photo. How do you arrange objects within the rectangular format?
