FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS
Formatting Requirements
Your Presentation must use the following formatting:
1. Label or number each slide except for Slide 1
2. DO NOT USE BULLETS OR AN OUTLINE FORMAT!!! For instance, the following items are bulleted:
- Item 1
- Item 2
- Item 3
In Power Point, the outline format (using bullets) is used by a speaker to give speeches in front of an audience. Remember, you are not delivering these as speeches, and I am not part of an audience listening to you. I will be reading these. So you want to make them as readable as you can and include the details that often are missing in the outline format. Think of this more as a writing assignment than a speech.
3. Make it readable and attractive. Use a readable title (never use all capitals). I do tend to grade a bit up for presentations that have those qualities. Avoid using hard to read type placed over a cluttered background of photos or other graphic images. Avoid a format that is in outline form. In other words, do not use the following format:
- My artist was Born Dec. 6, 1980. Died in a plane crash 2006. Instead write this as, "My artist was born December 6, 1980 and died in May of 2006 when his plane crashed on its way to a performance in Cleveland."
4. Observe the rules of formal writing and formal grammar. Avoid contractions. Do not write "Don't." Instead, write "do not." Proofread for grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and so forth. I am one of those instructors who loves good content, but finds poor writing a major distraction.
5. Do not use the word "you" in your writing when not referring specifically to me, your reader. For instance, if you write, "When you listen to Britney for the first time, you feel happy." This should be written as, "When one listens to Britney . . ." or as "When I listen to Britney . . . " In other words, always be aware of how you the writer uses "you" in your writing. Who are you the writer specifically referring to?
