February comic, transcript available below

Comic Transcript Panel 1: eLearning presents: Updated Zoom Etiquette after 2 years of this mess. Ben and his dog Ruby, and Nick and his dog Bear, are sitting in a Zoom meeting. Bear says, "First item on today's agenda: Walkies." Subtitle: #1, Everybody wants to see your pets, just put them on your lap already!
Panel 2: #2, Mute yourself when you cough or sneeze. You can't transmit a virus through Zoom, but it still makes people uncomfortable. Nick sits at a table covered in hand sanitizer bottles and wipes, and says "Need... more... sanitizer!"
Panel 3: #3, Make sure to leave time for necessary biological functions. Ben sits at a messy desk and thinks to himself, "If I leave this meeting three minutes early, I might be able to take a bathroom break before the next meeting starts... then if I keep my camera off for the first minute of the breakout room, I can take a couple bites of my lunch... egg salad sandwiches are fine if they've been unrefrigerated for six hours, right?

It can be a struggle to communicate with students quickly and reliably while still maintaining professional boundaries. In this session we'll show how Remind works, and chat about how you stay in contact with your students.

Feb. 22 @ 1pm: Designing better Home Pages
The Home Page of your Canvas course is carrying a lot of weight. It's the first impression your students have of both the course and of you as the instructor. It's the landing page every time they visit. It gets more total page views than everything else in your course combined. We'll talk about building course Home Pages that can make a good first impression and give students the information they need to be successful.

Building a Better NormalWinter Focus: Action Research Projects

As we continue our work as a college to build a better normal, we are trying to think of ways to be stay open to new ideas.  At eLearning, we were inspired by that spirit to collaborate with District Institutional Research to create a really exciting opportunity. That being said, this months module is a little unique.

The focus of our module is the Action Research framework. It is both a research style and a faculty development opportunity. It allows for you take a deep dive into problems you see in your classroom, and test out potential solutions. Our goal as Action Researchers is to learn what works best in our classrooms. Our module will discuss the ins of outs of this process and leads to an exciting opportunity for you to conduct your own research with IR!

Since the module is unique and leads to a larger grant opportunity it has its very own Canvas shell. Click here to view the module and become eligible for a $75 stipend for completion. After you complete the module there is an additional opportunity to apply for one of fifteen $600 grants for completing a research project. Further details can be found in the module.
