College Level Research at the SCC Library

Part 2: DATABASES   databases2.png

This quiz and the linked tutorial are designed to teach you about library databases.

The SCC Library has several databases containing all types of information (periodical articles, ebooks, images, etc.) SCC students can access databases on or off campus. The questions below will give you practice using library databases and deciding which are best for researching a particular topic.

If you ever need help choosing or searching a database, librarians are available through 24/7 live chat to help you find the information you need for your research.

To use databases from off campus, select a database, then follow the login instructions. Only currently enrolled SCC students will be granted access. (Contact the library if you have login difficulties.)

You MUST access databases through the SCC Library homepage. They are only available to SCC students, and not available on the free internet.

The information in library databases is NOT available on the free internet, so it is important that you always search library databases when conducting comprehensive research.

If you find an article in a library database which is not available full text, ask the library to get the article for you. The library will get books and articles from other libraries for you at no cost. (You should never need to spend money to obtain research information for your college assignments.)

Information in library databases is easy to cite! Most library databases have a citation generator which automatically builds a pre-formatted citation for you in the style of your choosing (MLA, APA, etc.) This is one very good reason to use library databases in your research.

[Caution: Always check citations from a library databases to make sure there are no punctuation, capitalization, or other mistakes.]
