Welcome to Your Canvas Survival Guide!

Welcome to Canvas, our Learning Management System (LMS)! Whether you teach on-ground, online, or some mix in-between, Canvas offers a space where you can compile and organize your course materials, interact with your students, provide opportunities for students to interact with each other, and keep track of and communicate students' progress.

We (the CCS eLearning team) want to support you as you get off to a great start and help minimize future challenges for both you and your students. That is why we've crafted this Canvas Survival Guide to help you become familiar with the platform and to embrace well-established and researched best practices related to course design, instructional strategies, and communication with your students. So, let's embark on this adventure together, armed with knowledge and a commitment to student success!

Getting Started

The resources in this Canvas Guide have been developed and compiled for instructors who are new to Canvas and also for those who have some Canvas experience but would like additional reinforcement and helpful tips. Each page of the Survival Guide has two sections ("Getting Started" and "Going Deeper"), which are organized on separate tabs. The "Getting Started" content begins with a brief introduction to the page's content followed by a short tutorial video and, in some cases, annotated screen captures explaining how to access and use that tool or feature. The "Going Deeper" content includes resources for instructors who are comfortable using Canvas but might be looking for some examples of instructional techniques or ways to address specific challenges, or maybe even just a little inspiration.

To get started, click Modules on the left-side navigation panel to work through the materials sequentially. Alternatively, you can use the links below to go directly to specific content.
