Online Asynchronous Course Syllabus

There are a number of options for sharing your syllabus in Canvas, and each has its pros and cons.

Option 1: Create a syllabus page in your Welcome Module and upload a PDF or .docx of your syllabus. This is great for students who will want to print your syllabus or download it for offline/mobile use.

Option 2: Create your syllabus in the Syllabus tab on the course navigation bar. You can take advantage of Canvas' formatting tools and be sure that students don't have to go through the extra step of downloading a document. Also, if you give your readings and assignments due dates, Canvas will auto-populate the Syllabus tab with a Course Summary, which some students do like as they navigate the course. Finally, you can also share your Syllabus tab link prior to opening the course Links to an external site. by going to Settings --> Course Details and clicking Customize under "Visibility." The, change the Syllabus to "Public" so you can share out the Syllabus tab link to students regardless of whether they are enrolled in your course.

Option 3: You can also combine components of the above options, by uploading a document to the Syllabus tab, or creating a syllabus page in your Welcome Module and placing a link to the Syllabus tab in that page.

Whichever option you choose, be sure to tell your students where to find the syllabus somewhere in the course (announcements, your "About This Course" page, etc.)
