Purpose
Throughout this week we have been introduced to different tools we can use to get a picture of our clients needs. We practiced picking through the initial results from client consultations and learned the ins and outs of setting informed goals for those that work with us. With that in mind let's do one last reflection on the week by looking at our initial discussion board posts with this new lens.
Task
Read through our Week 1 Discussion post, then use them to answer the following questions:
- What themes or similarities do you see in our groups responses to why they have chosen a specific health or fitness habit/goal?
- What kind of support do you think a client would need if those themes were causing negative health or fitness outcomes? How might that impact your approach to working with them?
- Using the themes or similarities you see in our group responses, create a S.M.A.R.T goal that address improving a related health or fitness goal
- Next week we will start to get to know the process for doing health and fitness assessments. To start you thinking about that process, imagine you are building your program based on this S.M.A.R.T goal, how will you assess your client at the start and end to know they have improved?
- Now that you have an idea of how to assess, what would you have your client "do" during the program to improve that goal? How does it relate to how you are assessing them?
Criteria for Success
For this assignment I will be grading based on completion of all the question prompts. However, I will also be assessing wether your S.M.A.R.T goal is consistent with the lecture materials and is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. I will give 5pts for completion, and another 5pts for a working S.M.A.R.T goal from question 3, since your answers to question 4 and 5 require a well built goal for you to be able to predict how we might use it in our fitness assessments and program design.
It is always so enjoyable to see how different and unique each class's responses are. With the permission of a previous student I have posted their assignment below so you can see how other students have gone about tackling the prompts.
