Quick Start Guide (HTML)
This course is built so that you can utilize the included templates in a number of different ways. Firstly, all examples include an HTML code snippet that can be copy and pasted into the HTML editor within the Rich Content Editor Links to an external site. in any text box in Canvas. At the end of the Template Modules you can download an example module. You can follow our import directions Links to an external site. if you aren't familiar with using Canvas Export Packages.
When using these templates and snippets, remember the following:
- When using snippets for headings, you may have to add a small paragraph tag under your copied headings to allow you to write underneath them. For example: <p>Adding these paragraph tags would create a new line where you can write normally formatted text</p>
- Anytime you see a HEX code Links to an external site. in the our template snippets (e.g #ffffff is the code for "white") you can adjust those values to fit your color scheme. Just remember that we want to keep pages accessible and legible for students. Always check to see if the color of the background and the color of the text have high enough contrast. White text on a black background is an example of high contrast, and would be accessible. You can input color combinations in WebAIM's contrast checker Links to an external site. to double check. We aim for ratios of 4.5 to 1 or higher, but generally prefer even higher than that. When working with colors make sure color isn't used to solely denote meaning.
- Have fun and be creative! Don't feel that these templates are the be all end all. Sometimes we just need a starting point.
