You receive a pay stub every time you get a paycheck, either a paper copy or an online copy. A pay stub has a lot of information in it. It tells you how many hours you worked and how much you got paid per hour. It tells you what was deducted from your pay, such as taxes and social security. It tells you the total of your pay check. It is important to look at your pay stub. If there is a mistake, you need to talk to your supervisor.

You will use Marion's pay stub, above, to practice multiplication and division.
To calculate how much gross pay Marion makes in a year, you will use multiplication. Marion gets two paychecks per month because he gets paid every 2 weeks. There are 12 months per year. Therefore, two paychecks multiplied by 12 months equals 24 paychecks total (12 x 2 = 24).
Marion will be paid $1,500 twenty-four (24) times over the year.
1,500 x 24 = 36,000
Marion's annual gross pay is $36,000.
To calculate how much Marion makes per hour, you use division. Marion is paid $1,500 for 80 hours of work. As a math equation that looks like: 80 x _______ = 1,500. To find the answer you divide 1,500 by 80.
1,500 / 80 = 18.75
Marion makes $18.75 per hour.
