READ & LISTEN

Read:

When we talk about history, we often talk about years, decades, and centuries.  A year is twelve (12) months.  A decade is ten (10) years.  A century is one hundred (100) years.

YEARS:  In English, you say the first part of a year as one number and the second part as another number.  For example, you say 1991 as 'nineteen ninety-one.'  The exception is the years starting in 2000.  For example, for 2015, you will hear 'two thousand fifteen' or 'twenty fifteen.'  If the year is less than ten (10), we say the letter 'o' and the number.  For example, we say 'eighteen-o-five".  Listen to the pronunciation of the following years.

1774,  1889,  1905,  2008
