Capitalization:
Study the chart below to review the rules for capitalization.
RULE | EXAMPLE |

Capitalize the pronoun I. | I am from China. |
Use capital letters with proper nouns. | John is going to Canada in February. |
Use a capital letter at the beginning of a new sentence. |
My name is Min. I am from China. The name of my city is Beijing. |
Don’t use ALL CAPS. This means that you are yelling! | WHERE ARE YOU FROM? |
Punctuation:
Punctuation is used most often at the end of a sentence. It can also be used in the middle of a sentence. Punctuation tells us what kind of sentence we are reading.
- A statement gives information and ends in a period.
- A question asks information and ends in a question mark.
- An exclamation is important or exciting information and ends in an exclamation mark.
- A sentence that has extra information, combines two (2) sentences, or has a list of three (3) or more things uses a comma.
