Using the Talking Drum to Talk with God
The Talking Drum and Praising God
Religion: Yoruba traditional religion holds that there is one supreme being and hundreds of orisha, or lesser gods. The group believes that these gods exert influence on the lives of humans and they can inhabit lakes, rivers, forests and so forth--a type of belief that Anthropologists call animism. The use of music and the talking drum play important roles in all the different religious cermonies that are held yearly throughout Yorubaland.
Today, Chrisitanity is widespread throughout Nigeria, especially in the urban centers. The talking is often used in religious ceremonies and to praise or talk with god.
