- Read through the short article, "How Miles Davis Put the Melody back into Jazz." As you read through the article, refer back to the diagram of "Fine and Mellow, which is included below.
- Open the link to the NPR Broadcast, read the brief introduection, then listen to the first 27 minutes of the NPR Broadcast about Kind of Blue.
- Watch a video of Davis' performance of "So What." Are you able to sense when the chords change? Remember, Miles is trying a new approach with fewer chord changes than previous jazz styles. In that sense, this recording is an important development in jazz.
