Slide 2: Artist's Background-4

IIn the first one or two sentences do the following
a. Mention the artist's name and genre.
b. Why the artist is important or of interest.
c. Describe the theme (sub title) you are developing throughout your presentation

Example: (Assume that the title of the presentation is "Britney: From Wholesome Newbie to Scandal Queen). Britney is one of the largest selling female artists to follow Michael Jackson in the genre of pop music. Though her rise to fame was quick, she did not always handle the ups and downs of fame well, sometimes relying on scandal to keep her image alive in the media.

II.  For the remainder of the slide address the following:

  1. Why did he/she become an artist? Also look for family background, personal experiences, or anything else that may have impacted the artist and the music he performs. Once again, watch how much time you devote to this topic. Don't go overboard and spend too much time with this, but do not gloss over it either.

  2. Popularity: Talk about the popularity of the artist or lack of popularity. Why is the artist so popular or not and be specific about this? Mention something about record sales to help illustrate how well the artist competes in the marketplace.

  3. Big Break: What significant influences in the life of the artist impacted his musical development. Did the artist have a significant “break” in show business? When did the artist go from being a struggling artist to a popular or famous household name? If that didn't happen to your artist, or it happened to a lesser degree, explain so. Think about what point in the artist's career the artist seemed to gain a significant degree of popularity or when he went into the popular limelight. This could also apply to lesser known artists as well. In other words, look for a significant even in the artist's career that allowed that artist to continue even though he may not sell into the millions.

Remember: You are developing a theme throughout the presentation, so make sure to refer to it somehow when describing the above information
