Week Three Discussion- A Formal Critique Using the Visual/Artistic Elements of Art.

The purpose of this week's discussion is to gain an understanding of how to see and describe the visual/artistic elements contained within a work of art. For this example we will look at a single painting and describe the visual/artistic elements used. The painting is Edvard Munch's The Scream from 1893. It is oil, tempera, pastel, and crayon on cardboard. The size of the work is 36 inches tall by 28.9 inches wide. The main focus of this discussion should be on the artist's use of visual/artistic elements. We will focus on the art mediums used, artist information, and its history later on in the quarter.
First, please take time to look at the painting. Look for examples of how Edvard Munch used the visual/artistic elements.
