Course Description

This self-paced, online course is taught by your CCS eLearning department instructional designers and will give you the basic training and practice needed to get started using Canvas to teach online or hybrid courses, or simply use Canvas to enhance your on-ground course.

Overall Course Goals or Objectives

This course is designed to get your up and running successfully with your new Canvas course shell.  You will learn how to manage the infrastructure tools to make your course run efficiently and how to create effective instructional pages, activities, and assessments to give your students the best opportunity to learn.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Experience a Canvas course from the student perspective
  • Navigate through a Canvas course shell
  • Communicate effectively with your students in Canvas
  • Build pages and modules in Canvas
  • Manage Assignments and Calendar events in Canvas
  • Use the Syllabus tool to publish important course information
  • Build interactive quizzes in Canvas
  • Manage student Grades in Canvas

Assignments and Grading Policy

 

A complete list of the assignments and quizzes for this course are listed below.

To receive credit for this training you must complete all assignments and quizzes with at least an 80% success.  Anything lower than this an we will give you feedback and expect you to revise your work until it reaches that level.

If a student contacts the instructor and has not established a file with DSS, the instructor should refer the student to DSS for documentation and verification of appropriate accommodations.

If the student already has a file with DSS, the instructor should contact DSS to see if the request is appropriate.

In either situation, DSS would notify the instructor of appropriate accommodations.
