Academic Advising

What is Academic Advising?

Academic advising is a process that helps students set goals and plan their education in order to reach those goals. SCC has professional counselors available to guide you through this process. Counselors are also available to help with personal development, career exploration, and study skills. Research shows that students with a solid education plan are more likely to reach their goals.

When should you see a Counselor?

We recommend meeting with a Counselor any time you have questions about choosing courses, finding balance in your life, studying for finals, etc. It is important to chat with a Counselor in your first quarter to set up an Education Plan. After that, if you are unsure about which classes to take, the weeks leading up to registration are a good time to have your meeting. Keep in mind that Counseling appointments fill up fast so it is best to plan ahead. Counselors are available all year round.

How do you know who your Counselor is?

You will not have a specific Counselor assigned to you, however our Counselors are matched up by program. Check out this link to see which counselor works with your program. Links to an external site.
