Remodeling your Home...page
Pro Tip!
If you really want to get more advanced in the way you build your pages, upgrade to power tools by learning some basic HTML coding. Knowledge of HTML code gives you significantly more control over the formatting and layout of your page content that you don't have in the Rich Text Editor.
To learn more check out sites like Code Academy, Links to an external site. W3Schools Links to an external site., courses on Lynda.com Links to an external site. (free when accessed through CCSnet via this link), and books from Sitepoint.com Links to an external site..
Or, of course, set up an appointment with your friendly neighborhood Instructional Designer for a lesson.
You've got the plans, Let's get to work!
Now that you've evaluated some sample pages as well as your own course homepage, the next task is to apply what you've learned and either remodel an existing homepage or build a custom homepage for your course. The tutorial videos below will guide you through the process of:
- locating templates in Canvas Commons and importing them into your course,
- copying content from a template into a new page for editing,
- setting that page as your course homepage, and
- working with the Canvas Rich Content Editor.
You are not required to use one of the templates if you already have a page that you like and are just looking to polish it up a bit, but if you're starting from scratch a template can save you a lot of time and headache.
Some of the process of building or customizing your page may seem more advanced to you. That's OK. To help you out with this step eLearning will be offering two hands-on training opportunities during the faculty work days at the end of the term. Come on in any time during either of the blocks listed below (or both if you want to) and get help with your page.
SFCC | SCC |
Monday, December 12 9am - 12pm Bldg 2, Room 206 |
Tuesday, December 13 10am - 1pm Bldg 50, Room 118 |
But no burritos this time. :(
If neither of those times work for you, or you think you would like some additional help, feel free to schedule an appointment with one of the instructional designers. This is what we're here for. While you're off having your holiday break we're still here most days this month, so come on in and see us. We can even build you some custom banner graphics or course cards. :)
