Effective Course Homepage Module Overview

Welcome to December's Professional Development training. This month's topic is Effective Course Homepages. You will see homepages from a student's perspective and identify what components of a homepage are needed depending on the modality of a course. Think of a course homepage as a hotel lobby. When students get there, they want to know they are in the right place, they need to know where to go to get started, and they want to know where all the amenities are located. This module will cover everything you need to know to create a clear and easy to navigate course homepage.

The objective for this month are:

  1. identify key elements of a successful course homepage.
  2. evaluate, make recommendations for, and improve an existing course homepage.
  3. set a custom page as a course homepage in Canvas.
  4. locate and use templates in Canvas Commons.

Requirements

In order to receive the $25 stipend for this module you must complete the following:

  1. Evaluate the content of two example course homepages.
  2. Use the course design checklist to make recommendations for your own course.
