Module 3 Objectives and Overview
Overview
We have finished dealing with the question of what is music (and what is not music), and now we are ready to move on to specific genres of music found in America as well as Ireland.
Objectives
- Folk Music: Demonstrate an understanding of the key components that characterize "the folk," who they are, and some general things about how they perform music.
- The Blues: Evaluate information sources to identify key characteristics of the early blues, including the message as conveyed through the lyrics. Identify the main historical influences on the development of the blues tradition in the Mississippi delta region.
- Irish Traditional or Folk Music: Evaluate information sources to identify connections between the agricultural lifestyle and music, some historical factors in the development of Irish folk music, and some modern day advancements.
- Listening Skills: Listen to and identify key features in the early blues and in performances of Irish traditional music.
