Latest Updates in Zoom

Turn off Self View

One of my favorite new features and according to Caleb, "reduced 10% of my Zoom fatigue" is the ability to hide your own video feed from the gallery or speaker view in Zoom. Not seeing yourself is much more relaxing and easy to turn on. From gallery view, find your video square hit the sideways ellipses, then select "hide self view".

Live Auto Transcriptions

Only the meeting host can turn this feature on. From the meeting window, select "Live Transcript" then "enable Auto-Transcription". Once it is turned on participants need to select "live transcriptions" at the bottom of their Zoom window to see the AI generated transcriptions. These transcriptions aren't 100% accurate, however they are pretty accurate with a quality microphone.

Spotlighting

Spotlighting is the ability to highlight a specific participant to always be seen in the Zoom windows. Often when sharing a screen, only the speaker is seen along with the shared content, however Spotlighting will also include that intended participant. This is especially helpful when using a translator during the Zoom meeting. You can select a participant for "Spotlighting" by hovering over that individual's Zoom square and in the top right of their square select the ellipses and then select "Spotlight for Everyone".
