Purpose:
As the module's resources indicate, the way we communicate with students through virtual means can have an impact on how students perceive us and how they can feel a connection with us. Research in instructor immediacy has shown that when students feel a sense that their instructor is real and involved, they perform better and are more engaged in their learning. The point of this assignment is to ponder and reflect on the resources shared in this module.
Task:
After reviewing the module's resources and reflecting on your own practice, what areas do you see for potential growth? Taking a step back, how do your announcements or syllabus read? When communicating with students, are you sometimes frustrated with their communication style? On the other side of the coin, how has communication been a strength in your classes? What strategies do you use to come across as authentic, supportive, and welcoming to your students?
Criteria:
The depth and length of your reflection is up to you. A successfully completed submission will include your thoughts on one of the topics discussed in this module.
