Digging Into Panopto Analytics

Accessing Your Panopto Analytics

The following video shows you how to dig in to the Panopto Analytics for your courses. See what's available to you.

From Access to Action:

So you've accessed your analytics, identified where students aren't viewing (and performance is suffering because of it) and want to take action.  Lucky for you one of our previous month's module was focused on increasing viewership in video lectures.  Peruse through that module for a variety of strategies. Often our students need to be guided into the types of successful student behaviors we want to see. Many of our first generation, first time college students don't necessary know "how to student". Throwing up a video in a module, without context or a follow up assignment doesn't usually attract most of our students, often just the students who are already performing well.  Instead, consider assessing student learning after the video or have them build on previously assessed knowledge to show deeper understanding.

Validity Issues with Panopto Analytics

The Good

Panopto analytics are live. Unlike the Canvas analytics where your data may be a few days behind, with Panopto you know the data you are seeing is absolutely up to date.

Keep in Mind

The sharing permission settings of your Panopto videos will impact the quality of video analytics that you are using. If your permissions are set to "Anyone with the link", you will receive a fair amount of Anonymous viewers, however if you set your folder settings to "Anyone at your organization with the link" your viewer stats will show specific students.

Another issue that may arise if you are teaching multiple sections of the same class. If the video is being hosted from the same master class, the analytics are going to be mixed together so it will be challenging to see how a specific class as a whole is doing.
