Strategies for Online Discussion
Best Practices
In our previous module on discussion boards we provided five approaches for enhancing online discussions. Those strategies included:
- Write clear and direct instructions and prompts
- Engaging students in the discussions
- Utilizing small discussion groups
- Use a rubric for grading criteria
- Consider video posts
While we still stand by these strategies, I think there are more topics to consider in making a great online discussion. In the video presentation below, by the amazing Angela Rasmussen in the SCC Teaching and Learning Center, highlights three components of a successful online discussion forum.
