Universal Design for Learning and Equity - Module Overview
Overview:
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an educational framework which recognizes that different learners have different strengths, needs, learning preferences, and ways of creating and demonstrating understanding.
A UDL approach offers flexibility and choice in how students access material, engage with course concepts, and demonstrate their learning and understanding.
UDL can feel overwhelming at first glance, but it doesn't need to be an all-or-nothing approach. We don't need to scrap and rebuild our entire course to move the needle. We can start on a path toward Universal Design by adopting one new course design practice, rethinking one assessment, or reimagining just one piece of your curriculum.
Learning Objectives:
Our goal this month is to identify how principles of UDL can be used to improve student access and equity, and implement UDL principles in one aspect of our course.
For this module you will look at one specific course item or activity, and redesign it using one or more of the concepts embodied in the Universal Design for Learning framework.
