Equipment and Software

What do you need to make your videos?

Getting the right tools for creating video is key. On this page you will learn about some of the tools available to you as well as some links to other resources and training that you might find valuable. As we mentioned before, the equipment you'll want to use will range based on the type of video you want to create and how you're using it in class.

Tripods and phone mounts like this one are available for SCC faculty to checkout from the Teaching and Learning Center, along with other items like various microphones, webcams, and the 360° camera.

Faculty Perspective (Part 2)

In this video segment, David and Ira talk about some of the equipment and software they use in creating their instructional video, and why they use it.

Camtasia Screen Recording and Editing Software

If you're interested in exploring some more advanced screencasting and video production software, we suggest you take a look at Camtasia. This software has many great features designed specifically for the education market and is very intuitive to learn. If you can use Powerpoint, you can easily learn Camtasia as well.  This is a great program to install on your home or office computer for individual use. (You'll probably have to contact IT to install in your office.) We will also have Camtasia installed on the computer in the Faculty Studio as well. If you're intersted, see the buttons below for downloading the free 30 day trial, and for accessing training materials for Camtasia.
