Introduction
This course provides a quick overview of how to:
- Create and edit captions in Panopto using their Caption text editor.
- As a possible time-saving alternative: Download the Panopto video, upload it into YouTube.
Create automatic captions using YouTube, edit them for accuracy, download them and upload them into Panopto.

used in the training session is provided for you at the beginning of this module.
- It contains step by step instructions used during the demonstrations.
- It contains hyperlinks to helpful resources used in specific areas of the training session.

- If the hyperlinks in the PowerPoint presentation do not work for you in Canvas,
please download the PowerPoint presentation to your computer and play it there. They should work.
2. PDF's of helpful guides used in the training sessions are also provided for your use in this module.

Online Tutorials: Both Panopto and YouTube have online tutorials with step by step instructions available to you through their help menus on how to create and edit captions. Just type "captions" in their help search menus. For your convenience, current links are provided in the module and also here:

The Described and Captioned Media Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the National Association of the Deaf has a great web site with very helpful resources and guides regarding captioning. They cover many things including the different types and formats of captioning. They have a guide for best practices and styles when entering captions to represent the various audio elements encountered in a video.
